Sign Language Lesson Plans for First 6 weeks
Each group will have sign language every other week therefore the lessons are repeated for two weeks each.
The 1st and 2nd Weeks

During the first and second weeks, we will be reviewing what the children learned during the summer program and going over the basics with the new students. These activities include: the alphabet, numbers and colors. In addition we will be learning about the history of sign language and many different facts about the basics. This knowledge plays a key role in understanding and building a functioning knowledge of what is needed to hold a conversation with the hearing impaired world.
The 3rd and 4th weeks.

This week focuses on learning basic signs for People and occupations. This will help in the development of basic sentences and a conversation starter to introduce themselves to a hearing impaired person.
Sentence starters: I am a (boy, girl, student…..) and My name is _________.

This week focuses on the family. By learning these signs, your child will be able to talk about their family in a conversation with a hearing impaired person.

By the end of the first Six weeks, your child will be able to sign and have an understanding of the signs listed in the curriculum. They will also be able to start a conversation by introducing themselves and telling a hearing impaired person that they are a student and learning sign language. ASL (American Sign Language) is a language spoken by a vast population and is a great tool for building communication skills in your young child.
